Violence is Becoming too Common

Sadly, as I headed home the other day, I witnessed a group of elementary students pounding on a helpless kid. I instantly blew my horn as if I was near crashing, hoping this would startle them into stopping this malicious act. As the multitude of cars were riding my bumper, I peered out of my rearview mirror, noticing that the gang of children did disperse.

My heart instantly went out to that child. What kind of day would he continue to have? What will tomorrow bring? And will his life ever be the same due to this horrific experience? Research states that nearly 30% of students in America are involved in some form of bullying (victim or culprit). This is a sad reality, because bullying effects a child emotionally in addition to physically. This fear then transfers into the classroom, which of course impedes their academic growth.

When I penned Cornbread Faces the School Bully, I wanted to address bullying but in a subtle way. Courage is a definitely a variable introduced in this story; however, communication is a much larger factor. I don't want to give the plot away but rambling on too much. But I will say this, kids will truly see the effects of bullying and how communication is imperative for a positive outcome. So check out my latest Cornbread chapter book and give me some feedback.
